MAMA.codes is an award-winning and fast-growing creative coding school for children aged 3–11.

We believe coding is the new literacy and that every child deserves a quality coding education!

Our core mission is:

  • To empower the next generation with the digital literacy and wellness skills they need, to thrive in a world ruled by technology
  • To start all young children on their coding journey and give every young child the confidence and ability to code.
  • To encourage children from a wider range of backgrounds, thereby driving diversity in the Tech industry

MAMA.codes is a fast-growing, parent-powered coding school.

Founded by three London mums working in digital industries, who wanted their own daughters to “fall in love with coding”.

We knew something had to change, and we weren’t going to sit around and hope that someone else would change it.

That’s why we started MAMA.codes.

To provide children with the skills they need to be successful.

To make sure girls and boys both have the same opportunities.

And to help create better lives for the amazing people who raise them.

Our growth journey began in 2017, when we piloted neighbourhood coding clubs in three London suburbs.

We quickly scaled to 35 classes a week across the city, in schools and community venues.

When the Covid 19 pandemic struck, we moved all our classes online in just 10 days, including our free outreach programme in partnership with charity Nova New Opportunities.

We’ve now attracted over 1,400 children to our virtual classrooms and reached a global audience from Hawaii to the Philippines.

We’re so grateful for our loyal and engaged parent community:

  • 100% would recommend MAMA.codes (Customer Survey, April 2022)
  • 70% of families who book a taster session go in to book a paid course and 75% of booked customers go on to book a subsequent paid course
  • Across our newsletter and social channels we reach an audience of 12,000

Why Coding?

Coding was added to the school curriculum in England from age 5 because it is important that every child is digitally literate in order to thrive and succeed in an increasingly digital world.

We aren’t just teaching the next generation of software engineers…

Coding and digital literacy are becoming core skills, needed across the board in professions from medicine to marketing.

Most importantly, however, children can have a lot of fun with code, develop their confidence and make full use of their bountiful imagination.

Coding is on the school curriculum in the UK from age 5 because it is important that every child is digitally literate in order to thrive and succeed in an increasingly digital world. Most importantly, however, they can have a lot of fun with code, and make full use of their bountiful imagination.

Our unique teaching method introduces children as young as three to coding through song, rhyme and storytelling using free kids’ coding App ScratchJr. In 2022, we will also be launching our own coding app Looparoo, to enable children around the world to access our curriculum from home.

We also realise that a lot of the adults who support children with their learning, be they parents, teachers or carers, have never coded in their lives. Fear not! MAMA.codes makes it super easy for adults to support kids as they learn – we’ve even seen adults inspired by mama.codes to start their own coding journeys.

We are also passionate about online safety and healthy, educational screentime. We run Raising Digital Kids talks and webinars, and offer a free guide for parents of children aged under 8.

What we offer

We teach children the fundamentals of coding in an effortless, fun, and age-appropriate way.

Our unique teaching method and bespoke curriculum pathway introduces children as young as three to coding through song, rhyme and storytelling.

Children aged 3-4 learn powerful coding concepts via physical movement and highly interactive sessions in our “Jump and Code” format.

Children aged 5-7 start to learn tablet-based “drag and drop” coding using the children’s coding app ScratchJr. We love ScratchJr for its use of icons in place of text, opening up access to pre-readers.

8-11 year olds move on to the powerful and versatile Scratch coding platform and then on to HTML/CSS, Unity and Minecraft coding.

Looparoo - Coming Soon!

Later in 2022, we will also be launching our own coding app Looparoo, to enable children aged 3-7 around the world to access our award-winning curriculum. (Join the waitlist for early free access!)

We will be releasing versions of Looparoo for families and schools, with free taster content then the option to subscribe.
